About Me

The education system needs bright, innovative minds to advocate for the needs of children, and that is exactly what Judy Bauernschmidt does. Judy is the daughter of Colombian immigrants, and she was born in New York. She is a first-generation American and the family's first college graduate. She always knew that she wanted to help people, and that is why she decided to pursue a career in education.

She spent the vast majority of her childhood in Denver, Colorado. There, she tried to pursue a variety of passions to figure out how she wanted to spend her life. She made a lot of friends growing up, and she was a standout in high school. Her parents were incredibly proud of her desire to pursue a college education, particularly given how hard they worked to provide her with the opportunities that she has enjoyed. After finishing high school, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree. Since finishing college, she has dedicated her life to education. She believes that nothing is more important than helping children, and that is why she remains at the forefront of her field. Judy Bauernschmidt has over 30 years in education, and she has spent the past two decades in online and blended education. She was one of the first educational professionals to realize the potential that online learning had for students, and her foresight has proven true to this day. She has worked in a variety of jobs in the education field. She has served as a teacher and a district-level administrator, overseeing a wide variety of educational professionals and departments. Furthermore, she has used her skills in both the online world and in in-person learning environments.

She has maintained her passion for K-12 learning, including online learning, because of her two children. She understands just how important it is for children to have access to a challenging, supportive, and inspirational learning environment. That is why she pushed the educational field to introduce blended learning methods to her sons. Her sons have enjoyed a blended learning environment all the way through high school, and she has seen firsthand just how powerful it can be. This is why she is one of the main advocates for a blended learning environment across all educational realms. Since she started her career, she has helped hundreds of thousands of students gain access to a blended learning environment. She has also helped more than 6,000 teachers learn how to maximize the benefits of blended learning. She has also been called a national expert on blending learning on the education stage.

Furthermore, she has led the largest online school in Colorado as a principal and director. In this capacity, she served more than 5,000 students, and she has championed innovative online school models that have been successfully replicated in other states. This serves as a testament to just how talented she is in this area. Always putting the needs of the students ahead of her own, Judy Bauernschmidt has served as the Director of eLearning for Jeffco Public Schools. This is the largest school district in Colorado, and she oversaw the implementation of blended learning across the entire district. In total, this included 85,000 students, and she was eventually appointed principal of the Jeffco Virtual Academy. Under her leadership, the online school attained the top level of accreditation and became the first district online school to earn this status. She even pushed the Colorado education department to adopt blended and online learning in rural communities, and she demonstrated that it could be done even in a rural setting.

Because her work with blended and online learning has been so successful, she was appointed to the online task force of the Colorado Department of Education. While there, she served as a member of the Advisory Board, which was charged with implementing new laws aimed at expanding the capacity of online and blended learning. She has also been asked to help write legislation that would lead to more innovation in Colorado's educational communities. She has also been approached by a variety of technology companies to see what types of features they need to include in their electronic devices to support everything that blended learning has to offer. She has even taken part in a number of research studies with the US Department of Education to find out more about online education and make sure that students learn as much as they can.

In addition to her work as an administrator, she has served as a presenter at national and international conferences. This includes the International Association for K-12 Online Learning, the Online Learning Consortium International Conference, SENA Congreso e-Learning/Bogota, the Colorado Department of Education, and numerous others. She is widely recognized as one of the top experts in the field, and she always advocates for the needs of students. She recognizes that students face a variety of challenges and learning environments, and that each student has unique strengths and weaknesses. She thinks that blended and online learning are great for students of all levels because they are flexible, adaptable, and can be made to fit each student's needs.

Even though Bauernschmidt is dedicated to her field, she also understands the importance of maintaining a solid work-life balance. She has a loving family, and she tries to spend as much time with them as possible. She has raised two beautiful children, and she works hard to maintain her relationships with her family members and friends. She also believed that maintaining a great work-life balance allows her to be fresh when she returns to work. In addition, she pursues a variety of hobbies, including spending time outside. She believes that nature has a lot of lessons to teach us, and she uses nature as a source of inspiration in her work. She works hard to help kids of all ages, and she has helped a lot of students and teachers get the most out of new ways of learning and move the field forward.
